The 90’s called. They want their stuff back.
Current style trends right now are taking us to the 1990’s. Not just inspired by or influenced by, but it’s straight up 90’s style out here. (And the irony is not lost on me as “Return of the Mack” plays while I type this….)
Here’s a little known fact about me: I rarely ever go to the mall. Malls get too crowded and messy and it’s hard for me to shop in peace. While shopping is my favorite past-time, the mall is not where it’s at. I think I’ve mastered the art of online shopping which makes malls so unnecessary for me.
So imagine my surprise when I decided to pop into Urban Outfitters on Friday. I went in to see if I could pick up a last-minute item to spice up my wardrobe before my next style shoot. The whole store – all of it – looked exactly like the nineties y’all. From crushed velvet and knee-high socks, to Tommy Hilfiger jean jackets and Calvin Klein tees. I knew chokers were making a chic comeback but this was on another level. Next thing I know I’m calling my mom to see if she kept any of my Tommy Hilfiger from back in the day. There’s gotta be a bubble jacket or Tommy tee hiding somewhere. Who knew that keeping clothes for 20 years would turn out to be such a good idea?
Clueless is my favorite movie (don’t judge) which has inspired my strong affinity for the period 90’s style into the early 2000’s. Baby tees and baggy jeans were so bad yet so good. This outfit is definitely nineties inspired and I’m not mad at it.
Whether you like it or not, the nineties are back. What do you think? Are you feeling the return of 90’s style?
