With just under two weeks to go until the festival, Musikfest is swapping out Wind Creek Steel Stage headliners.
The festival announced on Tuesday that Hector Trioche and Michael Stuart would be replacing KT Tunstall as the Aug. 12 headliner. Due to the short notice, the show will be free to the public. Trioche will turn the headliner stage into a big salsa dance session, as the Puerto Rican singer is one of the premier performers of the genre.
Trioche will headline the night after an opening performance from Stuart, a longtime backup singer for artists like Marc Anthony and Victor Manuelle. Their performances will be preceded by a DJ from local radio station La Mega and urban merengue band Mako Swing.
The switch occurred after Tunstall announced she would be cancelling her touring dates, postponing some of them to 2022, out of an abundance of caution for her hearing ability. According to a message she posted on Twitter, Tunstall had previously lost her hearing in her left ear in 2018, and had recently begun noticing signs of the same issue in her right ear, prompting her to take some time off from live performances.
The Thursday night performance is sandwiched in between Aug. 11′s Colin Hay Band and Aug. 13′s Zedd show. All of the tickets initially purchased to Tunstall’s show will be refunded, ticketholders will be contacted by ArtsQuest’s box office.
Musikfest’s full headliner schedule is available at musikfest.org. The festival kicks off on Aug. 6 and runs through Aug. 15.
