A 32-year-old Phillipsburg man was sentenced last Friday to 17 years in New Jersey state prison in two sexual abuse of children cases that were consolidated, the Warren Country Prosecutor’s Office reports.

Christopher Vielma, of the first block of Brainard Street, was sentenced by superior court Judge H. Matthew Curry on charges of aggravated sexual assault where the victim was younger than 13 (one count) and aggravated sexual assault where the victim was between 13 and 15 (two counts). All charges in the guilty plea are first-degree offenses.

The 17-year sentence includes an additional 17 years of parole on the first charge and will run concurrently with 10 years each with no early release for the remaining two charges. Since the sentences run concurrently, Vielma faces 17 years behind bars. He also will be under Megan’s Law supervision for life, the prosecutor’s office said.

Vielma was charged in February 2020 in the Warren County case and in July of that year in the Hunterdon County case.

His attorney Robert Russell did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
